I was injured in 2015 and lost my job but collect workers comp. Do I owe taxes

I also paid for a student loan in 2016.

Workers compensation is not taxable, so it does not go on a tax return.  If you have no other taxable income to file a return with, there is no benefit to claiming student loan interest.
