Can you clarify what you mean by deducted at the last minute? Did your refund amount drop by $1000 in TurboTax or are you saying you received your refund, but it was $1000 less than expected?

Sorry. I should have elaborated a little. My refund was to be 1,484. Towards the end, I was asked questions about school. As soon as they asked whether I was to receive my college degree, it dropped by 1000, which is what I am VERY confused about. I paid 7000 dollars in tuition last year.

It sounds like your refund amount may have been assuming some education credits that once you answered the questions, TurboTax determined you were no longer eligible to receive. Not every one is eligible for Education credits, which can change based on enrollment status, how many years in a row you've claimed, etc.
