I was divorced in 1997. Should i file as Single or Divorced? Nothing is due my ex-wife.

File as single unless you qualify for Head of Household. Marital status for tax purposes is based on your status on December 31st each year.

 

 Since you are divorced, you are not required to use the married filing separately status.  Use the link below if you have a dependent and believe you may qualify for Head of Household.

You would use Single.  

Divorced is not a filing status it used to ask specific questions and would default to a filing status of Single.
