I was asked if I had gambling winnings and when I entered yes, it states I have to get the 34.99 package. Is this due to the gambling winnings?

Gambling winnings require form 1040. You must upgrade to Deluxe to access a form 1040. 

There is another free product called the Freedom Edition that you might be eligible for if your total income was $33,000 or less. You can enter the gambling winnings with it. Check it out here: https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/2026912-how-do-i-switch-to-turbotax-freedom-edition
