I want to switch to the online version. In the past, I have used the downloadable. Can they be synced?

You can transfer 2016 from your computer into the 2017 Online version.

After you start an Online return, Go to Tools > Transfer last year’s TurboTax return from your computer > Continue

But FYI if you are used to using the Desktop program you might not like the Online version.  You can only do 1 return per account.  And you can’t see the forms.  And you might need to use a higher version.  And the pricing structure is different.  Etc.

Oh you need the file ending in .tax2016 on your computer  to transfer into 2017.
