I want to file separately, so I can receive my federal refund, and file state when I can afford to pay. Why can't I??

Turbo Tax is only offering me to file fed & state returns together or DELETE state & only file federal.  WHY???

So just delete the state now.  You can come back later and add it again.  You won't lose anything.

Some states require that you file your federal and state returns together. That is a requirement of the state and there is nothing that you can do to change that.
