The IRS requires a daytime phone number if you owe money in taxes. That is not a TurboTax requirement. If you have a refund the phone number is not required. That may be the difference between your tax return this year and prior years.
If you need extra time, filing an extension by April 15, 2026, moves your submission deadline to October 15. But remember any taxes owed are still due in full by the original April 15 date.
hi RobertB4444. Sorry, that may be partially true but does not apply in my instance. I owed taxes last year, no ph# was required and i e-filed it using Turbotax. This year, was required to enter ph# for 2 factor authentication (verified via text to ph#) before proceeding. I already have my email with turbotax on file so it was not like they were unable to do 2 factor authentication through email. Interesting thing with Turbo tax is that they took the payment first and then bought up this issue of requiring ph# before e-file could proceed. I could have been sequenced differently and allowing customer to review if they want to consider e-file through turbotax if ph# was required. Don't agree with Turbotax, will try another tax filing platform next year. Cheers
