When you use desktop software installed on your own computer you get 5 federal e-files. There can be a fee for e-filing the state return, which can be avoided by printing and mailing the state return. However, which tax year are you inquiring about? You can no longer e-file a 2016 (or earlier) tax return. E-filing is closed for 2016 returns. Returns must be printed, signed and mailed.
