I think you are misunderstanding something.  Why do you think you can file for free on 3-31?   Usually the prices for online TurboTax go UP on March 1.      Where are you seeing something that makes you think you can file for free on 3-31?

Are you seeing the offer that says you must file BY 3-31 to file for free using online Basic Live?

Do you mean the offer to use online Basic Live and file by 3-31?  That means you have to file it before the end of March.  March 31 would be the LAST day to use the offer.  It does not mean you can only file on 3-31 for that one day.

And.....that is only for a "simple" return.   If your return is not a "simple" one it costs you plenty.
 
Here is what a "simple " return would be:
