You do not say what the 1099G was for----was it for unemployment? Unemployment is taxable on your federal return, so the software will calculate the tax owed and then those calculations will follow down to the refund you see on line 35a of your Form 1040 or to the tax due you see on line 37.
What is the 1099G for? A state refund or unemployment? If it is taxable it will be included in your income and will be taxed with all your other income. It will be part of your tax due. You don't pay it separately.
Yes it was unemployment, i was told in July by the office I’d have to pay taxes on it even tho it was a claim from 2020/2021. I only was supposed to get back $285 from my job in 2022. I was supposed to pay like $190 on the ui taxes. On the 1099 form it says “federal income tax withheld : $135” “state income tax withheld: $54” but I didn’t opt for withholding b4 payment and they added that to my take home taxes after submitting. So instead of $285 I’m getting $474. Shouldn’t they have subtracted the $189 (what I owe in ui) from what I was owed from my job ($285)? Not added it? Bec I didnt pay the taxes on ui or opt for them to take them out before I got the check.
@abbybarry0803 What you are trying to explain to us is totally confusing. If there is some issue between you and the unemployment office regarding the amount of unemployment you received or the tax withheld--you have to sort that out with them yourself. We cannot tell you to enter your 1099G in any way other than exactly as it appears.
