I've been divorced for 18 yrs. Which benefits me financially, single or divorced? Can I use single if it's better for me?

There is no filing status of divorced. File single if unmarried or head of household if you have a qualifying person.

Ok ... there is no filing status of "divorced" so you could not use it if you wanted to do so.  The program asks what you MARITAL status is and that is divorced.  Then if you do not enter a qualifying child to get you to the Head of Household filing status  the program automatically deducts you will use the SINGLE filing status.
