Unfortunately, you cannot merge the two accounts. The best advice I can give is to

Please remember which User ID is connected to your previous year's returns (this way all your information won't be lost).

If you no longer have access to the email that it's connected to, you can change the associated email to reset your password. Just remember the User ID stays the same.
