I thought I would see how this works before committing to any payment.I would choose the upgraded version if I proceed, but am not ready to commit topayment.Can I proceed

Yes, anyone can "Start for Free".  No payment is required until you choose to preview, print or e-file your return.

Yes, anyone can "Start for Free".  No payment is required until you choose to preview, print or e-file your return.

But be aware that the prices can change at any time.  They usually go up in mid March.  You can pay early to lock in a current price.  Also the state return is a separate extra charge.

Be careful about paying early, however.  I wouldn't pay for a few weeks.   If you pay in advance, you can't use "Clear and Start Over" if you need to.   Also do NOT register in Free Edition, or you won't be able to later "Clear and Start Over" if you need to.
