Look at what has been entered for your state estimated tax payments using this procedure, edit or delete as needed.
To enter, edit or delete estimated taxes paid (Federal, State, Local) -
Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Deductions and Credits
Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
Scroll down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid
On Estimates, click on the start or update button
Thanks. Yes, of course it was my mistake. On the (Federal) page where I report state estimated taxes, I had entered my 2024 overpayment as an "Additional Payment" even though it explicitly said "Don't enter payments made in 2025 for your 2024 state return or any 2024 overpayment applied to this year's return."
I have two suggestions for improvements:
The "Don't enter..." should be closer to the field for Additional Payments" (rather than at the top of the page), and;
When I click on (and try to edit) the entries in the state tax forms, it should explain that this value was transferred over from the federal taxes, and point me where to go to change it.
