I think TurboTax incorrectly categorized me as married filing separately when I qualify for head of household (my husband is nonresident alien). What should I do?

Review your entries in the MY INFO section ... when you enter a qualifying child the HOH option should be presented.

It doesn't pop up as an option; it just says they qualify as a dependent for certain tax breaks. And I realized they did the same last year. I shouldn't have to provide my spouse's info at all, but there is no option to not include it.

Since the program is an interview tree you must enter the spouse info in the beginning but it will not be used if you qualify for HOH later.  May I suggest you indicate you are Single in the beginning then you will not have to deal with these issues later.

Thank you, that's a good idea. Do you think it will look suspicious if last year I filed married but filing separately because of TurboTax's mistake, or it's normal/not suspicious to switch to Head of Household?

OK ... the marital status screen  is not sent to the IRS ... this is just part of the interview to get you to the correct screens which you seem to be having trouble doing ... so use the work around.

FYI ... the IRS can always question HOH filing status so be very sure you qualify and be prepared to support that choice with paper evidence of supporting the household.
