I submitted 1099-Misc and completed my tax in 2017, but that money was paid for the work i did in 2016. The amount total is less than 10K. What should i do now?

Also my wife is in H4-EAD and it expired end of 2016.  Meaning i did not realize it expired and i did not renew the whole of 2017 and i renewed it now.  Not sure how complex it is.  Should i amend my 2016 and 2017 as well?  Meaning to add the money to 2016 and remove the money from 2017 filed tax.

If you performed the work in 2016 but were paid in 2017, then it is correct to report it on your 2017 return. Otherwise, you will need to Amend (change or correct) your 2016 taxes if you didn't include the income.

If you included the income in 2017 but were paid in 2016, then you will have to Amend 2017 taxes as well. You will need to add the income to your 2016 tax return and remove it from 2017 taxes.

If you need to Amend, see instructions here - How to amend (change or correct) a return you already filed
