I started a nanny job Jan 2 of this year, do I have to pay estimated quarterly taxes?

Yes, if your employer is treating you as an independent contractor and not withholding federal (or state, if applicable) income taxes.

Follow the steps below to access the estimated tax section of TurboTax:

  • Log into your account
  • Hit Take Me to My Return;
  • Click Federal Taxes;
  • Click Other Tax Situations;
  • Scroll down to Other Tax Forms; and
  • Select Form W4 and Estimated Taxes.

TurboTax will ask about Form W4, then take you to a screen asking if you want to prepare estimated taxes.  Click "yes" and the program will display a review based on this your 2016 taxes.  You can click "yes" to adjust your income and deductions; follow the instruction to complete your estimates and print your payment vouchers.
