My husband was a non-resident alien for 2019, so he should not receive the first and the second stimulus checks. But in the Turbo Tax 2020, it calculated his amount to the return tax. How should I change this? Besides, both of us received 1042-S form and I didn't find any where I could put the info in the software. How should I fix this? Thank you!

You will enter your 1042-S with code 19 in box 1 for as wages under other miscellaneous income:
Please be aware that the Recovery Rebate Credit is calculated based on your 2020 tax situation. Is your husband still a non-resident alien in 2020? If he became a US resident with a valid SSN in 2020 then he will be eligible to the Recovery Rebate Credit.
TurboTax does not support form 1042s directly, but you can enter the income based on the income code in box 1. Where you report the income depends on the income code in box 1 and why the form was generated. Please see page 32 for a description of income code IRS Instructions Form 1042-S.
For example if you have code 1 Interest paid by U.S. obligors – general then you will enter this as interest income:
Hi DanaB27,
He is Resident alien for 2020. Our income code in box 1 is "19". In box 3, Chapter indicator is "3", in box 3a exemption code "04" and in box 4a, exemption code is "16". I did not got any answer when I search for income "Compensation for teaching". Do you have any suggestion for code "19" in box 1? Thank you!
You will enter your 1042-S with code 19 in box 1 for as wages under other miscellaneous income:
Now I add the income on 1042-S. How do I claim treaty exempt income? I know I need to fill the Form 8833. How to add Form 8833 to my tax return? Thank you!
You won't be able to e-file your return. You will have to print and mail your return to be able to attach Form 8833. You will need to download Form 8833 from the IRS.
Please see How do I print and mail a return in the TurboTax for Windows CD/Download software? or How do I print and mail my return in TurboTax Online?
