I selected to pay for Delux with my refund and it is $40, however it seems as if I am getting charge $80 for “two items” and I don’t understand where the extr $40 is coming from.

Deluxe is $40 for a Federal return and $40 for a state return (if you prepared a state return.)

Since you chose to pay any TurboTax fees out of your Federal refund, there is an additional $40 service fee for that payment method ($45 for California filers.)

If you haven't yet filed, we may be able to tell you how you may be able to remove that payment option and pay upfront with credit/debit card or a prepaid debit card you can buy in a store, and thus avoid the $40 service fee.
