I reviewed my 2018 federal return after it was filed and accepted and saw that the app double counted the estimated tax paid. what should I do. payment will be short.

The app added the applied refund from 2017 twice: as estimated tax (for 4/17/18) and applied refund t0 2018..

You would have to amend the return to correct this by removing the one you entered for estimates and leaving the one carried over by the program for applied from prior year.
