I received canceled debt 1099c due to my son s death. I am on disability benefits. Do I have to report it ? Is there way to forgive this debit and not report it ?

If you received a Form 1099-C, then so did the IRS - they will be expecting to see it reported on your tax return.

There are, however, certain exclusions or exceptions that may allow you to exclude all or part of the amount from taxation. TurboTax will help you determine if you are eligible for any exclusions or exceptions.

See FAQ below for guidance.
