I received back pay due to pay error from jan1 should I request a pay audit from prior year will it hurt my taxes if I was underpaid last year

my employer admitted to me being underpaid the gave me back pay from jan 1st to current I already filed my taxes back pay was 400plus. should I request a pay audit for prior year they already admitted to me being under paid and provided back pay from jan 1st but what about last years pay if they owe me from underpayment how do I find out I already filed my taxes they fixed it but do they owe ne from last year was the glitch affecting my pay last year too if so will my w2 be incorrect

We don't know if you are owed back pay for any year.  

  • That is something for you to work out with your employer.
  • It certainly would be worth asking the question.

From a tax point of view.  You should not have to change the 2025 tax return that you filed in 2026.

  • If you were paid back pay this year (2026) for work you did this year (2026) it will go on your tax return next year (filed in 2027)..
  • The IRS taxes income in the year it is received.
  • Payments paid in 2026 for work done in 2025 is also reported on your 2026 tax return (filed in 2027.
