I received a letter from the IRS telling me that they couldn't access my bank account, unable to locate account. How does this happen? How can I double check my account?

My account numbers are "x" ed out on my 1040 return form

here you go....

1) Log into your tax account....get into your Timeline

2) From the "Some Things You Can Do" menu for your 2016 file, save  a new PDF file copy of your tax return.

3) Open that PDF ....look for the "Electronic Filing Instructions" sheet in the Federal section  and open it.    It should look something like the picture #1 below.  Check your date, routing and account numbers.  

4).......then scroll down the the state tax section....look for the "Electronic Filing Instructions" sheet for the state and open it.    It should look something like the picture #2 below.  Check your date, routing and account numbers.

(Be aware that the routing number for some banks, may need to be different from your check routing number,  particularly for BofA)
