I received a 1099c for a student loan that was forgiven. I did not ask for this to be forgiven .Do I have to report this on my taxes?

I had my federal loans forgiven due to a VA disability rating.  At the time this happened I received a letter from the personal loan holder saying they were also going to forgive my loans to try to relieve the burden on me.  I did not ask for these loans to also be written off.  I did not want them to be.  But, now I have received a 1099c for $12,300.11 for those loans also.  Do I have to report that?

The short answer is yes. By receiving a form 1099 you are required to report it.
