A Form 1099-MISC does contain income that is required to be reported on the tax return. If you believe this was in error then you should contact the payer to inquire.
It does seem from your question that you were being paid to care for your grandchild which indicates you are being paid for performing a service as an independent contractor (not an employee).
If the amount in in box 7, nonemployee compensation, then you also pay self employment tax because you were not an employee. You can see this tax by using the preview function and checking line 57, Form 1040.
