I purchased TT desktop to file multiple federal taxes for the family. But wasn't able to upgrade to Windows 11 so switched to TT online. How to file my other federals?

The TurboTax online editions can only be used for one tax return per account and User ID.  To start another tax return you will need to create a new account with a new User ID and a new email address.

Sorry----when you switched to online instead of desktop, you got ONE federal return and one state return.  You do not get five federal and five state returns using online.    When you use online TurboTax, you get one return per fee.   The additional returns will each come with a fee for federal and a fee for state, unless some of them can be prepared using the Free Edition.

Each return needs its own email, account and user ID.   If you use the same account and user ID for a second return, the second one overwrites the first return and it is lost forever.

2025 Migration to Online Offer

TurboTax Desktop to Online Migration Offer Terms (Tax Year 2025)

The offer is only for 1 federal and state returns.  The rest you have to pay.

You can start another return in TurboTax Online by:

1. Logging out if you are in your account
2. Choose what TurboTax Online product you want to use for the second return
3. Create your account screen
4. Set up a new login for the second return
5. Start working on the new return

If you used the Desktop program before you may notice several differences and not like the online version.  It has less features and no Forms Mode.  You can only do 1 return per account.   Although you can use the same email address for 5 separate accounts.  Your return is only saved online so be sure to save both the .tax2025 data file and the pdf file to your computer when you are done.  In case you need to amend in the future or if you need a copy to get a loan or something.  You might not be able to access your online return when you need a copy.

You can open separate Online accounts for each individual in the family. 

1. You must create a new User ID for each tax return, 
2. You can use the individual's name.
3. Each account only supports one return. 
4. Sign out of  each account, then 
5. Select the appropriate product for the next person, and 
6. Choose "Create account"
