It happens occasionally to folks.
I usually tell people to make sure they e-file their own tax return, before e-filing for Family members.
The filing count usually steps up by one (unexpectedly) if an e-file is rejected for a SSN mismatch. When corrected and re-e-filed, tha ends up counting as a new e-filing.
Might be other instances where the count unexpectedly increases, but I'm not aware of them.
Once you hit the 5....erroneous or not....the rest have to be printed and mail-filed at the post office (sign/date...attach any tax forms showing withholding, use a tracking method at the PO service counter...and [[[sorry, I have to say it]]] make sure you send the state forms separately to the state's Dept of Revenue address)
None of your likely scenarios occurred. Four efiles all accepted first time with no issues. If something unusual had happened I might have accepted it, but under my situation this is unacceptable for Turbotax.
Might also happen if your tax software, and same installation code, was installed on another computer, and the other e-file happened there.
That's fairly rare...... but I imagine it could happen
Beyond that nothing we users can do about it.
There's something I can do about it, I'm going to complain to Turbotax and get my 5th efile or a refund of my purchase price for the software this year. I don't give up that easy. Maybe others would or I should but it's the principle of the thing. I'm retired, I'll make the time.
Sure, you can give it a shot......use the following for phone contacts...do NOT use the word "Refund" in the initial entries, or you get routed to an automated response system and not a person.
Thank you. I made an initial call today but wasn't ready to make the 25 minute announced time on hold today. I think we have a rainy day coming up.
I just got the limit message on my second federal return. This is ridiculous.
Update - After I acknowledged the message, it seemed to transmit my returns (Fed and State) fine. I had another return to submit about an hour later and it went fine with no warning messages. Clearly it has a bug somewhere.
