Did you file a GA state tax return for tax year 2021? If so, did the 2021 GA state return have a state tax refund or were there taxes owed? Did you receive the state tax refund or did you pay the state taxes owed?
What glitch? I have the TurboTax 2021 GA state program and have not encountered any type of glitch.
Since my retirement I have received a refund from Ga for $1200, except for 2021 tax year. According to Turbo Tax I was not due a refund. I filed my 2022 return through Turbo Tax and received a $1200 refund. What happened?
@Elizabeth Berube You only receive a state refund if your total state tax liabilities are less than the total state tax payments and credits reported on the tax return.
Look at the 2021 Georgia state tax return Form 500 that you filed. On Line 22 is your total Tax liability. On Line 27 are your total tax payments and credits. If Line 22 is greater than Line 27 you will have taxes owed. If Line 22 is less than Line 27 you will have a tax refund.
Also, you mentioned that you retired.
Georgia has a Retirement Income Exclusion which takes effect when the taxpayer is age 62 or older. If you were under the age of 62 for 2021 and age 62 for 2022 that may explain what you are seeing for the refund in 2022 and not in 2021.
