There is no physical signature on a tax return that has been e-filed. If someone like a lender wants a signed copy then print the return, use a pen and sign on the line that says "Sign here." If it is a joint return then both spouses must sign and date the return.
And....what tax year are you trying to work on? It is no longer possible to e-file a 2021 return, and it is way too early to e-file for 2022.
If you are trying to finish preparing a 2021 return using the CD/download, you have to print the return, sign and date it in ink, and mail it. E-filing is closed.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
