@garkatzack

You don't enter them in the state section

On the Deductions&Credits page in the Federal section...there is an Estimated Taxes section...and when you go in there, you enter you Federal & State quarterly estimated taxes as separate menu items.  Then those State $$ amounts automatically transfer to the State forms.

I imagne they put them there since many people are able to deduct state & local income taxes paid a s an itemized deduction, & they need to be entered right away.

I need to enter Estimated Tax payments made for state. Where can this be done?

I've read the many replies but non mention how to enter STATE estimated taxes paid in the Federal part of the application. When I finally find where to enter the Federal estimated taxes, which took some digging, the only option I see is where to enter the Fed info. I don't see where I can enter the State estimated tax info. TurboTax, you really messed this up. I did not have this issue last year.

To enter, edit or delete estimated taxes paid (Federal, State, Local) -

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Deductions and Credits
Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
Scroll down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid
On Estimated Tax Payments, click on the start or update button

On State estimated taxes for 2025, click on the start button

...or....don't you see the full menu of all possible Deductions&Credits down lower on that page???

If not...maybe you haven't expanded that page to see everything yet:

From a post by  @mesquitebean

When you click in the left column tab for Deductions & Credits, it may take you to a page called "Your Tax Breaks". That shows the "Tax Breaks", i.e., deductions, that someone has already worked on this year or that TurboTax is expecting from what was entered last year.

Lower on that same screen should be a button or link for "Add more tax breaks" or "Show more tax breaks" or similar wording. When clicked, then the screen should expand, and all the deduction topics are displayed including "Estimates and Other Taxes Paid." Then that topic can be expanded further to get the subtopic Estimated Tax Payments.

I need to enter Estimated Tax payments made for state. Where can this be done?

The only way I was able to find that page was with the help of Claude. One thing worth noting is that I have been using TurboTax for over 10 years, and I have been entering estimated taxes for over 4 years, so I am very familiar with the process. Something is definitely broken.

  • In the left menu column click Tax Tools
  • Click Tools
  • In the Tools Center click Topic Search
  • Type "estimated tax payments" and click GO
  • On the next screen you'll see Estimated Tax Payments with separate options for Federal and State — click Start next to State estimated taxes for 2025

Broken vs just Screwed up, can depend on how close one is to the 15 Apr deadline.

Yeah, the Online software now makes you click on some extra stuff to get the whole menu of items to show up with whatever recent changes they've made...all to "supposedly" help newbies.   Instead, everyone gets frustrated trying to find the entry point for the things they know they have to enter.

Come on TTX!!!! SHOW THE WHOLE MENU of items on the Wages&Income page...or the Deductions&Credits page.   All the time!   Stop making people HUNT for what they need.
