Very sorry for your loss.   I am confused by your post.   You say "last year's" return was not filed----do you mean you did not file a 2024 tax return?   Did your spouse pass in 2024?    If he passed in 2024, you can file a joint return for 2024----but that return must be prepared using desktop download software and has to be filed by mail.   You cannot get an extension for 2024 now.
