In the File section of the program on Step2 when taxes are owed you are given several options on how to pay the taxes.
When I filed my taxes I had to enter in my banking info and a date for them to remove funds I believe. I was under the belief that money for my taxes would just be taken from my account to pay for what I owe. ( I have never paid taxes before...)

Your bank information for the taxes owed was filed with your tax return. The IRS will debit your account on the date you selected.
The date I selected was today and I have not been debited

The IRS is backlogged in a lot of areas. So it would not be unusual for them not to debit the account so soon after receiving the tax return. They will probably debit the account within the next 10 days.
It has been 10 days how do I check in on the progress
I highly recommend that everyone create an online account on the IRS website to verify the status of payments, returns, refunds, stimulus information and so much more. If you can verify your identity, you will have access online the same day. If they cannot verify you at that time, they can mail you a code to enter when you log back in. This is so much easier than trying to call the IRS.
Please click the link below to create an online account.
