How do I file for an extension on our Federal taxes?

An extension does not give you extra time to pay your estimated tax due—-which must be paid by April 15, 2026. An extension gives you extra time to prepare your tax return. You have until October 15 to e-file it.

If you owe: When you make the online payment, select it is for the extension. You are automatically granted the extension with the payment. See Payments
Refund or balance due: File Tax Extension for Federal Taxes & Business Tax Extension | TurboTax Easy Tax Extension. Remember, your tax balance is still due April 15th
