You should be able to get an exact reason why the full Form 1040 has to be used by following these steps -

Log into your account and click Take Me to My Return (you must click this first to get Tax Tools to show)
On the left-hand side of your screen, you should see an option for Tax Tools and a drop-down menu
Select Tools
Click View Tax Summary
You can see what form you are filing and a description why on the Review Tax Summary page under "Which Form 1040 Do I need to file?" at the very bottom of the page (see screenshot)
