I made an incomplete tax return for the year 2023 and want to correct it. The application closes automatically.!

I received a W-2 form from my previous employer and want to amend my 2023 tax return.

I'm following the steps, but when I click 'Find a Tax File,' the application closes automatically. I don't know what the issue is. I'm using the free version could that be the problem?
(I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app.)

It depends. if you used a free version of Turbo Tax Online in 2023, then you have no access to your previous years returns, thus there is no tax file.

If using Turbo Tax 2024, you can upgrade to a paid version, such as Turbo Tax Deluxe and this will give you access to all your previous year's returns with Turbo Tax. Once you upgrade, here is how you can access your previous years returns.

1. Log into your Turbo Tax return
2. Go to our tax returns & documents
3. Select 2023
4. Look for Download.Tax file
5. Once the tax file has been downloaded, you can go back to your amendment software and it should then recognize your tax file has been downloaded.

I'm getting confused. Even though I'm using the free version, I still have the 'Download .tax file' option, and when I click it, the file is downloaded. Could the issue be that I haven't received full authorization because I'm using the free version? Should I purchase the $80 version to resolve this?

You will need to download and install one of the TurboTax 2023 desktop editions to open the 2023 tax data file.
