If your only income is social security income, there will be no Total Income, Adjusted Gross Income, Taxable Income, or Tax on return. In this situation, you are not required to file a tax return with the IRS and the IRS will not accept an e-filed return from you.
You can choose to not file a return with the IRS, or you can mail the return.

I'm having same issue. Wanted to e file my Federal and State return. In order to get the Circuit breaker credit from the state of MA, I need to file a Federal return too. Mailing takes forever but because my income is retirement Social security, I am unable to e file either. That makes no sense to me. Thanks
