I'm trying to pay my 2021 taxes on the IRS website, but the website is too confusing. It leads me to pick 2020 as the latest tax return year. Can you please help me?

Gives multiple tax return options, such as balance due and estimated tax, which makes it confusing.

Yes, I can help you. The IRS website asks for a prior year (for example 2020) because it will need information from the 2020 tax return to confirm your identity..

  • Here's what you need to do. Select a year, have that year's tax return in front of you, and enter the information requested by the IRS to continue and make your 2021 payment.
