If you are entering the email verification code, are you getting a message that it has expired or incorrect? If so, be aware that you have to leave the original screen open that asks for the code. If you close the original screen, it will invalidate the code. What you need to do is retrieve the code using a different tab, different window, or a second browser to get your code from your email, all while leaving the original screen open that asks for the code; do not close that original tab or window. Or another option if you are preparing your return on your computer, you can use your phone to go to the email to get the code. Just don't close the page on your computer. Once you have the code, enter it into the screen that you have left open.
