I am so sorry for the passing of your mom.

You can file for an extension for her 2016 taxes. You mother's tax burden is not your bill to pay. You are not obligated to pay her taxes due, ever. Her taxes are paid from her estate. If there is no money in the estate, it is still not your burden.
