i'm separated from spouse for over a year, she lives in different state and we don't talk. I don't know how she filed her taxes - itemized or standard deduction

Your spouse needs to know what you did just as much as you need to know what she did.   If you are unable to have a polite conversation to find out, get your attorney involved.   When you file MFS, both spouses have to file the same way.   Both itemize, or both use standard deduction.   If you are itemizing, you have to have some sort of meeting of the minds as to who is using what deduction.

If you’re separated but not legally separated at the end of the year, use the Married Filing Separately filing status. Refer to the IRS article Filing taxes after divorce or separation for more information.

 

If your spouse itemized deductions, then you must itemize deductions. The best thing is to try to contact her to find out how she filed.
