There are three possible places to enter a 1099-MISC, and where you enter it in the program depends on what box the income is reported in on the 1099-MISC. So we need details.
 - What box or boxes do you have income reported in on the 1099-MISC?
 - Where did you enter the data in the program? In the Business Income & Expenses section? Maybe the Rental & Royalty income section? Possibly in the Miscellaneous income section?

Box 7, Nonemployee compensation and box 18, state income, are the only 2 places that note income

I entered the data in the common income, 1099-MISC. I work for an independent contractor

For the state boxes, boxes 16-17-18 *MUST* all have something in them, or they are all blank. If you enter anything for any one of those boxes, then you *MUST* enter something for the other two. Period.
So if there is no amount in box 16, you must leave 16, 17 and 18 totally and completely blank. Not even a space.

Also note that since the income is reported in box 7, as far as the IRS is concerned that's self-employment income you earned while self-employed and "in business" for yourself. So all business income and any related business expenses are reported on SCH C as a part of your personal 1040 tax return.
If you are not claiming any business expenses (not one single penny) and have no business assets, then you can report it on SCH C-EZ which would require you to upgrade to at least TurboTax Premier since you're using the online version of the program.

Ok ... if box 18 is filled in the box 17 also must have a state listed  ...BUT if box 7 & 18 are the same then simply delete the unneeded box 18 amount.
