I am a US citizen living abroad (SPAIN) working for a US Company as an independent contractor, so I get a 1099-MISC. Since I am Spanish Resident, I need to pay Taxes here, including Self Employment Taxes (to the spanish social security system).
Following IRS instructions: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/international-taxpayers/self-employment-tax-for-businesses-abroad I got my certificate of coverage from the Instituto Nacional de la Seguridad Social that I need to attach as a statement to my taxes, but also I am requested to print “Exempt, see attached statement” on the line for self-employment tax.
Adittionally, I need to report my Self-Employment income in turbotax establishing that my self -employment income is subject only to foreign social security taxes and is exempt from U.S, so I did it following this instructions: https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/tax-credits-deductions/discussion/because-you-are-paying-se-tax-to... :
After you print your tax return, you then need to write "Exempt, see attached statement" on Line 57 of your Form 1040 (Now is in Schedule 2 line 4) , and mail your tax return along with your certificate of exemption .
Now the problem is that since my Schedule 2 is empty, it is not downloading with the package that I am supossed to send. So, my question : Is there is any way I can trigger this form?
