I'm 68 years old and married filing jointly. The Turbo Tax for is only applying the standard deduction of $29,200.00. Why don't I have the additional deductions?

Where do I check for the additional deductions for being over 65.

Your standard deduction lowers your taxable income. The standard deduction makes some of your income “tax free.”  It is not a refund.  You will see your standard or itemized deduction amount on line 12 of your 2023 Form 1040.

Have you entered the correct date of birth under My Info?  If I enter a date of birth greater than age 65 into TurboTax Online, TurboTax

  • prepares an IRS form 1040-SR rather than and IRS form 1040, and
  • automatically computes the higher standard deduction.

$29,200 is the right amount for a joint return with 1 spouse over 65.
 Standard Deduction 27,700+1,500=29,200
