I just got out on September 1st of last year. and have been working since the middle of November of last year. I've heard since I've been out that if you do not have insurance that you will be penaliz

bye mean just getting out I have been in prison since  2010 and I'm trying to get everything figured out and squared away so what is the best route and wait for me to do such things

You can be.  The penalty depends on the amount of income you (or your household) make.  A family at  the lower income levels are often times not subject to the penalty.  Two of the exemptions from the penalty are:

  • The lowest-priced coverage available to you, through either a Marketplace or job-based plan, would cost more than 8.16% of your household income. 
  • You don’t have to file a tax return because your income does not meet the filing requirements.
