There is no penalty for late filing if you're getting a refund. You may be able to verify your email address in your Intuit Account instead as explained below.
If you are referring to the 6-digit email verification code when efiling, then check your email's spam/junk folder to see if the code is ending up there. If that's not the problem, you can go to your settings in your Intuit Account and may be able to verify your email address there if it's not verified.
