I have been filing as "Married filing Jointly" but my wife never really worked. Has this been the right thing I've done? Or should it have been Single 65 y/o?

You cannot file as "single" since you're married.  You could file as Married filing separately but doing so would give you higher taxes and a lower refund.  Your are doing the right thing.
