I have already paid for Turbo Tax 2022, I purchased it at Best Buy and downloaded the program last winter, only need to pay to file State Tax. What do I do? \

How do I just pay for e-filing state taxes? I have already purchased Federal Tax program from Best Buy & downloaded it. I just need to e-file the state. Don't see where  I can do that without paying for Federal again.

You are posting from online software.   If you have the CD/download you need to launch the program from your own hard drive.  You do not "log in" to an online account. 

We see people get confused and they keep logging in to online software which will require them to pay at the end.   You need to use the desktop software.   One way to tell if you are using the right software---your tool bar.   Online software has the toolbar in a black vertical column on the left side of the screen.   Desktop software has the tools up on the top of your TT screen.

 Find the federal return you prepared using the desktop software and then ----do you still need to download the state software?  Or did you already prepare the state return and just want to e-file it?

 You can only e-file the state if you e-filed the federal return and it was accepted by the IRS.   Go to the FILE section and go through the screens to choose e-file for the state.   You will be prompted to pay the $25 state e-file fee.   Do NOT choose to pay the state e-file fee from a federal refund or you will also pay an extra refund processing fee of $40 ($45 in CA) on top of the e-file fee.  Or, print and mail the state return for the cost of a stamp and an envelope.

After you downloaded the program did you get it installed and Activated with the 16 digit License Code ok?  But you ended up in the online web version instead of your Desktop program.  Do you need help installing your program?  Are you on Windows or Mac?

How do I save my TurboTax Online return as a tax data file?

After you get the program installed the first thing to do before you open your tax return .tax file is to update the program and install any state programs you had. Then open your file. So you first might need to start a fake return to be able to download the state program (go to FILE - NEW).  Just enter some basic personal info like your name and address then click on the State tab at the top and it should ask if you want to download the state program.
