"I had just one transaction for form 8949."

You are asked to mail Form 8453 and Form 8949 because you told TurboTax "I'll enter a summary for each sales category" instead of "I'll enter one sale at a time."  The "concept" behind "I'll enter a summary for each sales category" is that you have so many trades that entering them one at a time would be too onerous.

Delete that trade and that broker and start over.  Click on the right radio button this time.

Thanks TomYoung, for reading that question a little differently!

Why can't turbo tax e-file form 8453 and form 8949?

It's usually because you have too many stock transactions.

If you're filing any of these forms:

Form 1098-C, Form 2848, Form 3115, Form 3468, Form 4136, Form 5713, Form 8283, Form 8332, Form 8858, Form 8864, Form 8885, or Form 8949

Address them to (with Form 8453 as a cover sheet):

Internal Revenue Service

Attn:  Shipping and Receiving 0254

Receipt and Control Branch

Austin, TX 73344-0254

If you're paper filing a 1040, find your state here.
