If you had to file your federal return by mail, you will have to file the state by mail too. The state cannot be e-filed unless the federal was successfully e-filed. If you mailed the federal return, go ahead and mail the state. You do not have to wait for the IRS to approve of a mailed return in order to mail the state.
Have you mailed your federal return yet? It will not help you to wait for someone else to amend, etc. if there was duplicate use of a SSN. The only way for you to file is to file by mail and let the IRS sort out the duplicate use of the SSN.
Thank you. I wasn't sure if I had to get the federal return approved first. I sent the entire forms to federal. Which forms do I send to the state or the whole packet again?
When you choose to print your state return for filing by mail, the software will know which forms to print out for you to mail in. Some states want a copy of the federal return, some do not. It will depend on your state. TT knows which forms to print.
