We had a new hard drive and couldn't find our 2016 Turbo Tax. After I had already typed in the information from our 1099-R's to a new return for 2017, I was able to find the 2016 return. I transferred the federal information from 2016 to a different return in 2017. Now I am wondering if there is a way to transfer the info from the first 2017 return to the new one or will I need to retype it.
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
You will need to re-type it.
If you did have the same 1099R's on the 2016 return, however, most of the information will already be there.
You also may be able to do an import on the 1099R for your broker for some 1099R's.
Happy you found the old file as this helps ensure nothing is overlooked when reporting income and deductions for 2017.
